As a child, Kelli did classic ballet and jazz, but it wasn't until college that she was introduced to partner dancing. She attended a small public university in the backwoods of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. There she realized how much she missed moving to music and began searching for something that really spoke to her. Square dancing two steps at the local bars just didn't cut it. Kelli tried everything she could, from Salsa and Argentine tango to East Coast Swing and Ballroom. She was able to attend a couple of Lindy Hop workshops over the years, but unfortunately, there just wasn't any opportunity or talent to draw from in the area, so she kept searching. During an internship in Syracuse she was introduced to the world of Westie (West Coast Swing) and while more interesting to her than ECS, didn't quite fit the bill.
After graduating, Kelli moved to Orlando, FL and found Lindy in full force. She began taking classes and even attended the South Florida Lindy Exchange(SoFLEX) where she realized just how much the music spoke to her and how far she wanted to grow. After moving to Colorado Springs in 2007, she became a regular face at Swing in the Springs on Sundays and eventually dragged her husband out on the dance floor. She began attending all of Denver's workshops and big events (Rocky Mountain Balboa, Lindy Diversion, Lindy on the Rocks, Mile High Blues, and DLX). Kelli has been to exchanges all over the country and has taken numerous privates sessions with local, national, and international instructors.
These days you'll see her at the VFW if she isn't at home with her little Valentine's Day baby. She continues to look for ways to connect more fully with her partner and the music as well as expand her style on the floor. Nothing stops this momma from dancing. Just hours before labor Kelli was seen swinging it out with her favorite leads. Keep an eye out on the dance floor for little feet. Her baby will learn to dance right along with walking and someday soon will make her debut in the local dance scene.
